Benjamin Franklin is born in Boston, Massachusetts.

The War of Spanish Succession continues. In May, the armies of the English, Dutch, and Germans defeat the French at the Battle of Ramillies.

Is September the French are defeated by the forces of Austria and Savoy in the Battle of Turin.

John V

John V is crowned King of Portugal.

The Act of Union of the two Kingdoms of Scotland and England is ratified by the Scottish Parliament. In March, the Act of Union is ratified by the English Parliament and two months later becomes law, uniting the Parliaments of the Kingdom of England and Kingdom of Scotland to form the Parliament of a united Kingdom of Great Britain.

In April the Allied army is defeated by Bourbonic army at Almansa (Spain) in the War of the Spanish Succession.
