In June the Tuscarora nation sends a petition to the Province of Pennsylvania protesting the seizure of their lands and enslavement of their people by citizens of the Province of Carolina.

In September, John Lawson, Christoph von Graffenried, two African American slaves and two Native American (slaves?) leave on an exploration expedition from New Bern and travel north by canoe up the Neuse River. Within days, they are captured by Tuscarora natives and taken to Catechna. The Tuscarora natives kill John Lawson. Christoph von Graffenried and one African American slave were known to have been set free. By the end of the month, Tuscarora natives under the command of Chief Hancock raid settlements along the south bank of the Pamlico River within the Province of Carolina, killing around 130 people. This begins the Tuscarora War.

In July at the Battle of Denain, the French defeat a combined Dutch-Austrian force.
